Isla del Caño Biological ReserveDrake, Costa RicaClick for More Photos  Text©Beatrice Blake-New Key to Costa Rica A small, round, forest-covered island about 20 kilometers off the coast that is thought to be the site of a pre-Columbian cemetery. Stones carved into perfect spheres can be found on the island; their significance is still unknown. Snorkeling and scuba diving are especially good at Isla del Caño because the water is often clear in the dry season and five coral platforms surround the island. The lodges all lend out snorkeling equipment, and many offer PADI-certified diving programs. Kayaks are also available.  |
