Monteverde Butterfly Garden

A biodiversity center dedicated to teaching the world about insects. Their four butterfly gardens represent different habitats. They have exhibits on live insects, a leaf-cutter ant nest under glass, a medicinal plant trail, and a Bug Theater. Guides give a fascinating explanation of the habits of each species, with ample botanical information as well. There are volunteering opportunities. To get there, follow the small butterfly-shaped signs that start across from the Hotel Heliconia in Cerro Plano. Take the dirt road to the right 600 meters, turn left, then go another 300 meters (open daily, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m).
